Let me put a bit of a different twist on the 'Horses To Watch' theme: lets call it 'CARD SHAPES' to watch. Now, I just made that up. But what the heck? I mean, we have the pace boys talking about race shapes, don't we? So what do I mean?
I mean the old axiom of "...play the card, don't let the card play you" can be even more important than picking winners. I'm on this because if you have been downloading my Slew stuff, you have seen wonderful daily double opportunities fall into your lap... and you didn't even know it. Today (1/21/2016) the last two races at Gulfstream Park used a $44 single in the 9th to key a double paying $245. And, made easily and cheaply playable by the way, because of a few scratches. But the moral of the story isn't to use Slew's stuff. No. The moral of the story is the SHAPE of the card that Slew's stuff helps to makes obvious. A shape too many players don't see, and too many others simply ignore.
All too often, the story is "I don't play daily doubles...". "I don't play trifectas...". "I don't play pick 3's...". Yet too many races are "inscrutable" insofar as finding winners, but are perfect when trying to hit a long price in a multi-race wager with a small outlay of betting capital. Using them to best advantage is what I'm talking about. I think that just as important, and maybe more important then having horses to watch for, is having a plan and an understanding what the card gives you. You hear it all football season long:
"He's taking what the defense is giving him...".
And that's what I'm talking about. Some days, the card gives you horses. Other days, the card gives you race combinations. Yet other days, the card gives you 'nuthin! Expand your view. Take what it gives you.
And as always...good luck and good 'capping!
