Hello All! We are going on 4+ years for the public Slew, and I have kind of stopped posting instructional or advisory notes regarding the use of Slew because most of you are, by this time, pretty familiar with the data and how to use it. However...as we add Tampa Bay Downs to the racing roster, I think it is important to reiterate why Tampa is a part of Slew's world and on the list of tracks we follow.
If you are new to Slew, know that Slew is my personal handicapping aid and was written with only one person in mind: me, and has served my personal handicapping needs quite well. That I have shared it for almost 3 years was a kind of accident, but something that turns out to be really cool. But the basis for Slew is a narrow one.
So...what about Tampa Bay Downs?
My interests have historically been the NYRA circuit and Gulfstream Park in the east. Out west, Hollywood, Del Mar and the now extinct Bay Meadows was the focus. Throw in a little Monmouth and Arlington and you have what was my handicapping world when I built Slew. A track like Tampa Bay or Calder was not at all of interest to me. Except, when a highly rated runner shipped to Saratoga, usually as a huge long shot. There have been a few, and they have financed entire seasons at the Spa.
So I added those tracks because once or twice a season, a runner from those tracks would slip into the NYRA circuit under the radar, but high on Slew's list. If well meant and successful, it was worth the work...and the wait. That is the only reason I follow Tampa Bay with Slew. I don't expect but a few winners there each season. But when a good one ships north and is ignored, I like to be ready.
So, please keep that in mind when looking through Slew's daily listing. We are following this track for potential runners down the road. On occasion there may be a betting interest there, so be patient and careful.
